DESPERATE learner drivers are paying unofficial brokers up to £500 for a test slot to avoid long waits, a probe has found.
Wannabe motorists are also travelling hundreds of miles for exams to beat the queues.
The number waiting to take their practical exam has rocketed from 147,716 in January 2020 to 500,000 this year.
