ROSES are red, violets are blue... and some love letters from famous folk will amaze you!

Yesterday we revealed that notes with poems from singer Bob Dylan that he sent to school sweetheart Barbara Ann Hewitt as a teenager are set to make £670,000 at auction.

But there are plenty of revealing romantic missives from history, as JAMES MOORE reveals

RUDE TUDOR: Sexed-up Henry VIII wrote raunchy letters to Anne Boleyn before she became his second wife. In one he wishes that he was "in my sweetheart's arms whose pretty duckies I trust shortly to kiss." Duckies was slang for breasts. A few years later the king would have her beheaded.

BONEY BALONEY: In a love letter to wife Josephine, French Emperor Napoleon channels his battlefield ego, saying: "I hope before long to crush you in my arms." In another the military leader offers her a kiss on the heart and "one much lower down"
