But there are plenty of revealing romantic missives from history, as JAMES MOORE reveals
RUDE TUDOR: Sexed-up Henry VIII wrote raunchy letters to Anne Boleyn before she became his second wife. In one he wishes that he was "in my sweetheart's arms whose pretty duckies I trust shortly to kiss." Duckies was slang for breasts. A few years later the king would have her beheaded.
BONEY BALONEY: In a love letter to wife Josephine, French Emperor Napoleon channels his battlefield ego, saying: "I hope before long to crush you in my arms." In another the military leader offers her a kiss on the heart and "one much lower down"
