A PUBLICITY-shy man laid into the Government yesterday as he said Britain's political system is at "rock bottom".
Despite a long-standing convention that royals don't get involved in politics, he made his feelings about Rishi Sunak's administration clear in court.
The bashful bloke gave his verdict on British politics in a witness statement submitted to the High Court as part of a claim against MGN over alleged unlawful information gathering.
He suggested Britain's global standing may have been damaged by its political leadership and news press, saying: "Our country is judged globally by the state of our press and our Government - both of which I believe are at rock bottom." The man claimed royals get "cast into a specific role", which was "in my case, the 'thicko, the 'cheat, the 'underage drinker, the 'irresponsible drug taker!" He also suggested stories about rumours his dad was Princess Diana's former lover James Hewitt were aimed at ousting him from the Royal Family.
Previously, the court heard MGN admitted a private investigator was instructed to unlawfully gather information about his activities one night in February 2004.
Otherwise, the allegations are denied or, in a few cases, not admitted. The trial continues.
