That was despite evidence by 1982 that infections were passed that way. Des Collins, a lawyer representing 1,500 victims, said Lord Clarke should be stripped of his peerage.</p>

<p>Over 30,000 people were infected with viruses including HIV in NHS care from the 70s to the 90s. Lord Clarke was contacted for comment.</p>
