FUEL companies have been accused of keeping pump prices "artificially high".
The RAC said wholesale diesel costs fell by 32p per litre in the eight weeks to December 11, but average pump prices only dropped by 20p a litre in that time.
For petrol, wholesale costs fell by 23p per litre, but it took another month for pump prices to drop a total of just 18p per litre.
The RAC said retailers "kept pump prices artificially high". And as wholesale costs rose again this week, reductions halted.
Simon Williams of the RAC said: "We urge the Government to focus on ensuring retailers quickly pass on savings."
The UK Petroleum Industry Association said pump costs were affected by "changes in crude oil prices and other supply and-demand factors".
