<p>Open Seas said we should swerve the dish due to its &ldquo;big environmental price tag&rdquo; until improvements are made to the fishing process.</p>
<p>But the fishing industry rejected the calls last night and said it was &ldquo;committed&rdquo; to making sure it has &ldquo;minimal impact&rdquo; on the environment.</p>
<p>Scampi is caught by bottom-trawling using boats dragging heavy fishing nets across seabeds. Conservations&nbsp;Open Seas claimed for every kilo of scampi caught this way, at least another kilo of marine life is killed and discarded.</p>

<p>The group&rsquo;s Nick Underdown said: &ldquo;This bite-size food comes with a big environmental price tag.</p>
<p>&ldquo;We think customers will want to know the hidden cost of scampi and take action.&rdquo;</p>
<p>But Seafood Scotland boss Donna Fordyce said trawlers follow strict legislation, adding: &ldquo;The fisheries being described by Open Seas are not behaviours we recognise.&rdquo;</p>
