THE COURT OF KING CARLOS

THE king is dead, long live the king.

And his name is Carlos Alcaraz, the new ruler of world tennis after stealing the Wimbledon crown of champion supreme Djokovic.

Novak Alcaraz won an epic five-set thriller of titanic tennis 1-6 7-6 6-1 3-6 6-4, to leave Djokovic's hopes of a calendar Grand Slam in tatters.

It takes someone special to beat Djokovic on Centre Court.

No one had managed it since Andy Murray a decade ago - and since then Djokovic had won 45 games on the spin on the most hallowed turf in tennis while claiming four straight men's singles titles.

But in an dramatic duel in the sun, Spanish matador Alcaraz produced the match of his life to triumph at SW19 for the first time on his own road to superstardom.

Alcaraz had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand with a stunning display of poise, power and precision to land his second Grand Slam title at the tender age of 20.
