HUNDREDS of staff are being paid to work for a railway body that doesn't exist yet, claim insiders.
Around 200 staff are employed by the Government to work on the Great British Railways scheme.
Despite being first put forward in 2021, the programme which would include simpler fares and setting a rail-freight growth target has still not been formally launched.
According to sources, delays to key legislation mean staff have been left twiddling their thumbs.
One insider said: "You've got a situation where ambitious people are having to sit around and twiddle their thumbs, waiting for legislation to come. Minimal work is occurring, with some only having one meeting a day."
However, a Department for Transport spokesperson said the claims were "not right", adding: "In reality, substantial progress is being made on our plan to deliver rail reform."
