More than a third of Brits over 50 know someone who has splashed out on a sporty number to try to regain their youth, a study says.
Top of the list is the Porsche 911, followed by the cheaper Porsche Boxster and James Bond fave the Aston Martin Vantage.
Moody, of Andy GoShorty insurance firm, which did the study, said: "Even in modern times a car is still seen as a symbol of status for many people. However, we know the practicalities of getting from A to B in a cost-effective and easy manner should be the priority.
Our report showed men over 50 seem to be sticking to the stereotype, with a desire to put flash ahead of sensible cash."
Other desirable midlife crisis cars included a Chevrolet Corvette, a Subaru BRZ and a Dodge Challenger.
But Andy added: "From being cheaper to insure, to lower maintenance costs, a reliable vehicle is always a better - and often safer choice, particularly in winter."&nbsp;
