The Deputy PM has denied claims the Tories "covered up" rape allegations against one of their MPs
Oliver Dowden yesterday insisted he had no role while he was party chairman in blocking a probe into a politician who may have attacked five victims. His comments came after former Tory chairman Sir Jake Berry was reported to have told cops that the party was told of accusations against an MP - who has not yet been named - but little was done.
Mr Dowden said: "I don't recognize in any form the idea that we covered up and I can assure you, categorically, that it was not the case that when I was chairman of the Conservative Party I covered up any allegations." He added: "It is very difficult for me to comment specifically on this for two reasons.
"First of all, the individual isn't named and secondly, it may be the case that there are criminal investigations ongoing.''
