The Only Fools And Horses favourite – played by late actor Buster Merryfield in the BBC comedy – entertained drinkers by belting out tunes down the Nag’s Head. Now legal experts say bringing back pianos could be a way of bars boosting business on the cheap. They don’t need entertainment licences for acoustic pianos – which often attract musicians who play them for free. Joe Harvey, from licensing law experts Poppleston Allen, said pub pianos held “great appeal”, with YouTube packed with videos of drinkers playing them. The keen amateur pianist added: “I’d love to see more pianos in our pubs. So my advice is this: Get a piano in your pub. You don’t need a licence for them. If you’re lucky you might get some free advertising on YouTube. If you’re unlucky, you might get me.”
