Clinical psychologist Michaela Thomas said that the constant chase for perfectionism has a dark side.
She reckons that allowing yourself to be average in day-to-day life can be better for you overall.
Thomas said: "Striving for perfection can put such pressure on us that we get stuck in procrastination instead of creative problem-solving.
"Allowing yourself permission to aim for B-minus work means you free yourself up to be creative, rather than being too attached to a particular outcome.
"Perfectionists are less likely to keep trying once something gets too challenging. If you attach self-worth and selfesteem to your achievements, no wonder you crumble when you fail."
Thomas recommends getting creative with children by painting, cooking and baking with a "focus on how it makes you feel" and not the end product.
The fear of getting things wrong can stifle creativity and is more common in girls, according to Lego's latest study of 61,500 children.
