HOSPITAL chiefs apologised after an error led to a grieving family cremating the wrong body.
The family, who have not been named, held a funeral for the body around three weeks ago.
They had to stage a second service for their loved one after the "isolated" blunder at Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, south Wales, was uncovered.
The hospital's board has apologised NHS over the "human error" and said "words cannot express how sorry we are".
It added: "This is an exceptional case." The person whose body was wrongly cremated is not thought to have had any surviving relatives.
An investigation is being held over the cremation at Sirhowy Valley crem in Blackwood, Caerphilly. An&nbsp;Aneurin Bevan University Health Board spokesman said: "We are utterly heartbroken about what has happened to the family, and we take responsibility for this isolated incident.
"We have met the family to fully inform them about this situation and to offer them as much support as they need."
