Mum Lindsey Beaumont said the family dog Rosie offers "constant emotional support" to Joe, 16.
She said: "If he closes down and is not able to say what he is feeling or thinking, he'll go to the dog. It's unconditional love. She is the biggest comfort and help - she's his lifeline."
