A RARE goal from Diogo Dalot helped secure an equally rare win for Manchester United to ease the pressure on Erik ten Hag.
Dalot's second goal of the season and a Bruno Fernandes penalty were enough to see off Wigan and book United a trip to Newport or Eastleigh in the fourth round.
It was just United's second win in the last seven games and, while they blew a host of chances at the DW Stadium, the triumph will do little to suggest Ten Hag's men can go on to lift the trophy.
But at least he can breathe a little easier following what has been a torrid few weeks for the Dutchman.
Ten Hag made just two changes and named a strong-looking line-up in a bid to avoid a humongous banana skin.
Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund both returned at the expense of Christian Eriksen and Antony. Meanwhile, keeper Andre Onana, who will be with Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations later this month, also started.
