His criticism of Sir Keir comes as the Labour leader faces intense scrutiny over “beergate", after he ate curry and drank lager with party colleagues at a campaign event in Durham last April while the country was under Covid lockdown rules. In a highstakes gamble, Sir Keir last week pledged to resign as leader if he receives a fixed penalty notice from Durham Constabulary.
