Beyond that, technically, there are a kazillion "laws" as you travel across America. There are city laws, county laws, state laws, and federal laws. When there's a question about whether someone has obeyed a law, they can find themselves in court in front of judges or justices. We may not always like the way a court case concludes, but we have to accept the decision a judge and or jury delivers.
In our country, there's always been a lot of talk about the scales of justice and lady liberty. For people of color, historically, the justice system has, many times, failed us. Justice, too many times, has not dealt a fair hand to people of color. Let's just be honest and transparent.
When one believes a trial has gone wrong or that the judgment seems incorrect, one has the option to appeal the court ruling. All kinds of other actions can also still be taken to fight against the decision. But at the end of the day, after a second trial, if it is deemed you are guilty, a sentence will be forthcoming. Agree or don't agree.
