A TREASURER of a Plymouth football club who admitted taking thousands of pounds from the club has avoided a jail sentence.
Matthew Gilmore, of Cobbett Road, Plymouth, attended Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on July 24, when he faced one charge of fraud, to which he later pleaded guilty to at Plymouth Crown Court.
The 43-year-old was the club treasurer of Plymouth Marjon Football Club when the offence took place in 2023. Sentencing Gilmore this week at Plymouth Crown Court, Judge Robert Linford said the level of trust placed in him as club treasurer was “very high indeed”, but he repaid that trust by “siphoning money from the football club’s account”.
