PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Friday issued directions for a contingency plan to safely evacuate Indians from violence-hit Sudan, keeping in mind the rapidly shifting security landscape and the viability of various options.
Chairing a virtual high-level meeting, he asked officials to remain vigilant, closely monitor the ground situation, continuously evaluate the safety of Indian citizens and extend them all possible assistance.
The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, foreign secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the Air Chief Marshal, Naval Chief and other officials.
"During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi assessed the most recent developments in Sudan and received a first-hand report of the conditions on the ground, with a specific focus on the safety of over 3,000 Indian citizens presently located throughout the country," the PMO said.
Meanwhile, Jaishankar met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York and underscored the need for successful diplomacy for an early ceasefire.
