LANDO NORRIS produced one of the finest qualifying laps of his career to spoil the Max Verstappen party at Zandvoort.
The Dutch fans roared as their home hero jumped to the top of the timesheets with his final effort of the afternoon.
But Norris, 24, was still on a flying lap and mastered windy conditions to beat the Red Bull racer's best time by more than three-tenths of a second.
It was a huge margin on Fl's second shortest track and the beaming Briton (right) said: "The car was feeling amazing.
"We've got some upgrades on the car for the first time in a while and everything is working very well, so a big thanks to the team."
Asked if he can hold off Verstappen to convert the McLaren pole into a win, Norris said: "I'm sure it's going to be tough, Max has been very quick all weekend.
