Tories knew child poverty would grow

TORY ministers cut Universal Credit despite being told by officials that the move would plunge 300,000 kids into poverty.

The warning came in Treasury documents from 2021 kept secret by the previous government.

They have only just been made public after the Tories fought a yearlong battle against their release ahead of the General Election.

Marked "Official Sensitive", they were written after Boris Johnson's government raised the benefit by £20 a week because of Covid.
