<p><strong>Hyderabad:&nbsp;</strong>Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday directed officials to take up repairs and recarpeting of roads by calling for tenders within a week and finalise them by December second week. He said the roads in Telangana should shine like a mirror.</p>

<p id="2">&ldquo;Priority should be given to the roads that got damaged in the incessant rains and surging streams in the last few months apart from roads in the rural areas. A software should be developed for monitoring the road maintenance works,&rdquo; KCR said.</p>
<p id="3">The CM, who held a marathon review meeting with ministers &mdash; Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao and V Srinivas Goud &mdash; and officials at Pragati Bhavan on roads, decentralisation of works and recruitment in R&amp;B and panchayat raj departments, later visited the new secretariat complex and inspected the ongoing works. He made some suggestions to the officials on the designs of the secretariat project.</p>
<p id="4">Assuring that the government would approve appointment of staff in R&amp;B and panchayat raj departments, KCR asked the officials to repair the roads immediately after getting reports on the damage caused to the roads. &ldquo;The roads should look like a mirror and the responsibility lies on both the departments,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p id="2">Officials brought to the notice of the CM how the roads were getting damaged in rural areas where tractors without tyres are operated for agriculture purposes. At this, the CM asked the officials to created awareness among tractor owners and drivers on the damage being caused to black topped roads. When some officials said they were facing problems in case of roads passing through forest lands, the CM said they should coordinate with forest department before taking up maintenance works.</p>

<p id="2">On the lines of irrigation department, the CM said appointment of engineer-in chief for each circle comprising five to six assembly segments along with territorial chief engineers would be implemented in R&amp;B and panchayat raj departments. Division of work would be approved by the state cabinet after the departments submit reports, he said.</p>
<p id="3">The CM said the government has increased granting of maintenance funds to the R&amp;B department and given powers to the engineers to take up the works immediately.</p>
