Expressing concern over the "population explosion" in India, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said on Wednesday that a uniform population policy was needed and should be implemented evenly across the country. He also warned of religious conversion and migration, "which are causing a population imbalance", and called for strict implementation of anti-conversion laws.
"The population of Hindus has gone down owing to conversions. The problem has been aggravated by trespassing in certain parts of the country and must be checked.&nbsp;Therefore, India should have a population policy prepared after comprehensive thought and which should be applicable to all communities equally," he said on the fourth and concluding day of the RSS' Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal meet here.
He also warned that population imbalances had led to partition in many countries,&nbsp;including India. "Population imbalance leads to changes in geographical boundaries.&nbsp;There is a need to stop religious conversions and migration from other countries," he said. "As children of all families need development, proper the policy should be equally applicable to all so that all can get work."
Highlighting that the RSS was intensifying campaigning in the society to check the population imbalance, Hosabale said: "Our country is known as a country of youths&nbsp;and when the average size of every family has dropped to 1.9 from 3.4, a time will come when population of youngsters will decline and the population of older people would be more in next 50 years."
He said the Sangh "treats all equally as we are all citizens of this country".
"However, the existing laws to prevent religious conversion need to be implemented strictly as the population of the Hindu community is declining in many states due to conversion," he said, apparently referring to&nbsp;laws in some states, including UP, that prohibit conversion by force or allurement, particularly through marriage. He claimed that conspiracies are being hatched for religious conversions in other parts of the country".
Hosabale also said the Sangh was connecting with all communities and tribes in the northeast. "The feeling of 'main bhi Hindu hoon (I, too, am a Hindu)' has grown in the people of the NE states because of RSS' efforts towards 'swabhiman jagran (arousing self-respect)".
