With the dream of making Gujarat, sports capital of the country, Government of Gujarat started taking concrete steps to facilitate infrastructure and hone talent. Our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his tenure as the Gujarat Chief Minister, initiated policies and initiatives in this regard. Today, under the leadership of its Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat is ready to host these National Games after a gap of seven years by augmenting existing sports infrastructure within three months. Here is how the state has managed to play host to the mega sporting event and yes, about two decades of on-ground endeavor
Sports Event Par Excellence

Khel Mahakumbh 

  • With the idea of boosting sports at the grassroots level, and bringing a behavioural change in the community, Khel Mahakumbh was launched in 2010.
  • The 11th edition of Khel Mahakumbh was organised with 36 sports (general) and 26 para sports A new record was set with 55,59,195 athletes registering for the 11th Khel Mahakumbh.
  • The state government accorded cash prize of Rs. 29 crores to over 1 lakh winners and best performing schools.

Gujarat Sports Smart Infra

  • 19 districts have well-equipped district level sports complexes Each district will soon have its own sports complex
  • An Olympics-level state-of-the-art sports complex is being built at Naranpura in Ahmedabad
  • The Gujarat Government established Swarnim Gujarat Sports University in 2011 and its new campus in Desar spread over 130 acres is ready to be inaugurated
  • More than 3500 students in the last three years alone enrolled themselves at the sports varsity.
  • Today, more than 14 institutes are affiliated with the university.
