Master the tools in DPP to deliver drama and a cinematic feel for powerful images
Create cinematic stunners

Using a cinematic editing style is ideal for strong masculine characters whether they are male or female.

There are several steps that require attention to transform a strongly captured and posed shot. The techniques focus on colour, texture and selective editing. Working with a RAW image gives the maximum freedom in the edit as many of DPP's tools only work with RAW images. Key to setting the toning is white balance and colour adjustments.

Selective adjustments are used to highlight the subject.

Working from an initial image like this, you have to determine the basic colouring.

The key tool for this is White Balance to adjust the warm or cool bias as well as Tint in the green magenta direction. To increase contrast switch to one of the Picture Styles with more contrast as this still allows you to raise contrast later if it's needed. Landscape is the style with the most contrast, but it also boosts saturation to the primary colours.

Clarity is the slider to enhance details and texture in images. Limiting the peak highlights helps to achieve a flatter overall image.
