The M. Zuiko ED 300 mm f/4 IS PRO lens – on review here -- though old, complements the OM 1 Mark II and it’s a winning combination for any wildlife, nature or sports photographer. Let’s see how the lens performs on our testbench…
Design & Build Quality
The Micro Four Thirds M. Zuiko ED 300 mm f/4 PRO is a prime lens that is well-built and offers dust, splash and freezeproof (IP 53 Standard) construction by having hermetic sealing at 17 locations. The lens is compatible with its 1.4x (MC-14) / 2.0x (MC-20) Tele-converters. Filter diameter is 77 mm and the lens weighs 1475 g with its tripod adapter (1270 g without the adapter). The lens is Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) and is made in Vietnam.
Since the crop factor for Micro Four Thirds System is 2x, the M. Zuiko ED 300 mm f/4 PRO lens offers an equivalent focal length of 600 mm in the 35 mm format. A point to note here is that ‘there is no such thing as a free meal’ in life. Along with the equivalent 600 mm focal length, you also lose two stops of aperture, so depth of field would be equivalent to using 600 mm at f/8.
