A massive gathering, surrounding the periphery of the green and lined along the famous terrace overlooking it, had its eyes glued on proceedings that promised to propel one team on to the Winner's podium of the 4th Edition of the Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League - powered by Radico.
Kabir Juneja was staring down a six-foot putt... one he had to sink to get his team, MMG CocaCola to tie the hole against fellow Finalists Tee Birds. Earlier, Sidharth Sahni of Tee Birds, had, reached the green in regulation on the par3 fifth hole, and parred it. Juneja's effort of the tee had placed him just before the left greenside bunker, from where his chip shot left him with this six-foot effort to tie the hole. Juneja held his nerve. And drained the putt. Another tied hole... the fifth in a two-way sudden-death playoff which began on the 1st hole of DGC.
The sudden death play-off itself was necessitated due to the two teams tying with 3.5 points and three wins in seven games respectively. Finally, with light running out, a decision had to be taken between the two teams, the organisers and the officials. It was mutually decided to award the trophy jointly to the two teams.
Now here is where the irony lies!!! Both teams had tragically lost one member each, to the cruel hands of fate, prior to the start of the League - Tee Birds, Gaurav Karnik and MMG Coca-Cola, Advait Luthra. It almost seemed as if the two departed souls jointly willed this result into happening.
Marketed and Managed by Vishal Gold and Digraj Golf Inc. the 4th Edition of the Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League - powered by Radico, commenced on October 3rd, 2024. Two new teams, Victorious Choice and Sudhir Power, joined the fray this year, with the total count going up to 24 teams in the 2024 edition of the League. With 19 golfers representing each team there was a staggering field of 456 golfers competing for the silverware.
