ANTHROPIC LAUNCHES CLAUDE SCIENCE FOR MAC TO BRING AI INTO THE LAB
Techlife News
|July 04, 2026
Anthropic has introduced Claude Science, a new Mac application built specifically for researchers, marking one of the company's biggest moves beyond general-purpose AI assistants and into specialized scientific software.
-
Rather than positioning Claude as another chatbot for answering questions, Anthropic is targeting an entirely different audience: scientists who spend their days analyzing data, reviewing literature, writing code, and managing complex computational workflows.
The launch signals a broader shift in the AI industry. Instead of competing solely to build the most capable language model, companies are increasingly creating specialized applications designed for specific professions. Following the success of Claude Code for software developers, Claude Science aims to become a daily research companion for laboratories, universities, biotechnology firms, and research institutions.
A WORKBENCH BUILT FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Claude Science is designed as an AI workbench rather than a simple chat interface.
The application connects researchers with more than 60 scientific databases while supporting code execution, computational analysis, documentation, and workflow management from a single environment. Scientists can move between literature searches, data analysis, scripting, and visualization without constantly switching between separate applications. One of the platform's defining features is reproducibility. Every computational step—including code, software environment, and generated figures—is recorded, allowing researchers to recreate experiments later or share exactly how results were produced. Reproducibility has become one of modern science's biggest challenges, particularly as research projects rely on increasingly complex computational pipelines.
By automatically preserving those details, Anthropic hopes to reduce errors while making collaboration easier between research teams.
