MIDJOURNEY THE AI IMAGE GENERATOR IS DEVELOPING A FULL BODY ULTRASONIC SCANNER
Techlife News
|June 20, 2026
Midjourney, known primarily for its AI image generation capabilities, has announced an ambitious expansion into medical hardware with the development of a full-body ultrasonic scanner.
-
The project, under the new Midjourney Medical division, aims to create detailed 3D body maps in approximately 60 seconds using advanced ultrasound technology. This surprising pivot represents a significant departure from the company's core focus on visual AI while leveraging its expertise in processing complex data.
The scanner uses a water immersion design where users descend on a platform through a ring of ultrasonic sensors. These sensors emit sound waves from multiple angles, capturing reflections to construct high-resolution internal images without radiation or magnetic fields. Early descriptions suggest the resulting scans could rival traditional MRI quality but at a fraction of the time and cost, potentially making advanced imaging more accessible for preventive health monitoring.
This development comes through a partnership with Butterfly Network, utilizing their ultrasound-on-chip technology. Midjourney plans to deploy the scanners in dedicated spa-like facilities, starting with a flagship location in San Francisco, aiming for broader availability in coming years. The initiative reflects growing interest in proactive health technologies that provide regular, noninvasive insights into body composition and potential early detection markers.
