Jet lag and Phase syndrome:
Jet lag is a common term for early to delayed phase syndrome commonly associated with long flights where you travel more than 2-3 time zones. The biological sleep clock or circadian rhythm, which usually dictates the body when to sleep and when to be awake, is not able to adjust to the new time zone rapidly resulting in symptoms of jet lag in such cases. Such symptoms are clubbed together under the broad heading of Circadian rhythm disorders.
Symptoms of jet lag:
- Difficulty in falling asleep and staying asleep called insomnia
- Daytime fatigues
- EDS
- Gastrointestinal problems like gastritis, constipation
- Mood swings
- Impaired performance
- Poor memory and recall
- General fatigue
