Human beings, by nature, are social animals - more so, women. No woman or man would want to stay in isolation for any length of time. She needs the company of a colleague, partner, friend, or an acquaintance with whom she can share her triumphs and tribulations, her sorrows and joys.

Yet, for a variety of reasons, a large number of women prefer to stay single all their life. There was a time in India when a woman had to perforce enter the burning pyre upon the death of her husband. Social reformers like Raja Rammohan Roy stood firmly against Sati (widow immolation) and helped in the enactment of laws against it. It's one full circle now, that a woman can live as she desires.

Situations like divorce, death of husband, or job locations may force a woman to stay single. Else, she may have come to the conclusion that life as a single woman is more meaningful and more satisfying. Either way, to ensure that she sails through various stages of life smoothly and without being cheated and troubled, a few steps will go a long way to ensure safety, security, and peace of mind. Here are a few steps:

Keep your health in tip-top condition: The most important thing is to have a healthy, disease-free life, barring a few unavoidable conditions. By this, I mean one should eat healthy food, exercise regularly, avoid putting on excess weight, and try to maintain a normal BMI range of 18 and 23.
