I just can't do this, thought Susan Powers, as she grimaced and hobbled after her 1-year-old grandson, Calen. I can't keep up with him. Sue's knee and foot pain was so bad lately, it was the first thing she felt when she woke up. Her back wasn't much better. The stiffness used to fade once she got moving, but now it lasted all day. Doctors warned her that her aches would get worse unless she lost weight. And she did try-until boredom or stress sent her back to her junk-food ways. Now, with Calen playing happily on her kitchen floor, it occurred to her: It'll break my heart if my grandkids only ever know me as slow and sick. But was it too late to make real changes?
Ever since Sue was a young mom, she'd struggled with extra pounds. Using shakes, frozen meals, group plans, keto she'd usually lose a little but never managed to give up fried food, fast food, pasta or sweets for long. Little by little, they pushed her up to 237 pounds, her energy totally disappearing in the process. What's the best diet for someone who's really tired? she wondered with a sigh. She wasn't serious, but suddenly, an idea popped into her head: Her daughter's friend Amy was having a lot of success on Weight Watchers. She's a busy mom and she's doing it. Now that I'm retired, maybe I can do it too.
Grandma's got this
Sue did a little research on Weight Watchers and found she could get all the tools she'd need just by downloading the WW app to her phone. She also discovered the plan had "zero point" foods that were unlimited and didn't need to be tracked. The less I have to weigh and measure, the better, she said to herself. So she signed up.
