One sector that’s undergoing rapid transformation with each passing year is the lighting industry. Lighting has always been a fundamental element in the conception of architectural spaces, for it is capable of playing with volumes, distorting the perception of space, and even dramatising the shapes and textures of the materials, enhancing their aesthetic features dramatically.
And now, technical innovations in quick succession have revolutionised the way we approach lighting. As lighting becomes smart, it’s no longer just a matter of sockets, switches and bulbs. Smart lighting solutions are now motion-sensor integrated, ensuring that switches and push-buttons will soon become redundant.
Further elaborating on this, Sumit Dhawan, founder & principal architect at Cityspace’ 82 Architects, says “Lighting has become more of an aesthetic trend rather than serving its functional regime nowadays. Smart and stunning lighting decor elements have replaced the conventional fixtures which go perfectly with contemporary design style. Architectural lighting fixtures like wall washers, focus lights, glazers, lazer blades, deep recessed lights all these have improved considerably with respect to quality, reflectors constituted, housing, and the overall aesthetic sense as the years have passed. These fixtures have become a preferred resource of contemporary designers as it is the bespoke solution for qualitative lighting that is also functional in nature. This functional regime not only includes luminosity but also serves the purpose of art installations and decor items. Thus, the level of aesthetics today has improved considerably, showcasing an evident difference in the chiaroscuro.”
