A young couple with their mother reside in this large 1800 sq. foot apartment. They wanted a complete overhaul, a totally new look and feel to their existing home. They appointed Sanjay Newaskar and his to redesign their home.
The brief to the designer was, a modern and open layout, a dedicated space for a home theatre.
The house plan had some very odd angles. The design team began with dismantling the entire layout of the house which had a center opening with a left side angular, a middle part that was square and another right side of the residence was also angular.
The new layout was done with angular shapes and divided into two angular parts. According to this concept some basic changes in layouts was done like some walls were relocated, columns were juxtaposed in same angular shape, even dinning table, false ceiling, partitions and furniture were placed at angles which flowed from one to the other.
Sofa seating arrangement exists at 2 different levels with center tables and a red revolving chair which becomes the focal point of this room. The living area adjoins common areas of kitchen, utility, dining, Mandir area, powder toilet, home theater. The guest bedroom and a second seating area with a sofa seating, TV unit, master bedroom with a huge walkin wardrobe and mother’s room compose the entire unit .
The entrance to the house is in the centre and it opens into the living room. The living, dining and kitchen are all in this center area while the other private areas are spread beyond.
The careful reorganization of spaces is meant to keep privacy as well as an openness of spaces. Its an L type design with a divider unit between living and kitchen which is made of reflective surfaces such as mirrors to create a subtle reflection of ebony veneer and lights.
