Outback Motortek Crash Bar/Skid Plate For The Triumph Tiger 800XC
Adventure Motorcycle (ADVMoto)|May-June 2018

It takes something special to stand out in the current world of ADV protection, but Outback Motortek has found a way to do just that. Rather than just make parts for the Triumph Tiger 800XC, they’ve designed a full protection system that uses interlocking components to reduce stress at attachment points.

The crash bars are divided into two sections per side with a robust cross member to tie them together, plus the skid plate. Installation was straightforward, but I noticed some left-over, strange-looking brackets. It turns out these brackets address two of the greatest weaknesses of other crash bar/skid plate combos produced for the Tiger—the low-hanging oil pan and the engineered-to-fail rubber dampened mounting bolts.

Outback Motortek builds crash protection for a variety of motorcycle brands and models but it is the interlocking design of the crash bar/skid plate combo they sell for the Tiger, Africa Twin and V-Strom that stands out as a complete protection system.

CHASING PEAKS IN THE HIMALAYAS

It was 2:00 a.m. on my fourth day in India. My eyes blinked open in the dark of a hotel room in Drass, a town in the Himalayas on the Indian side of the border. Yesterday was our first day riding on a six-day trip through the Himalayas, and my brain could not process everything I'd seen and experienced.

MAKING MEMORIES

Kevin and I initially met in the Marines. We have been riding together for a few years, and riding BDRs the entire time. Our first attempt at a BDR was in Utah, where we were completely unprepared and significantly ignorant of our capabilities. It led to some interesting moments conquering Lockhart Basin where we developed our backcountry motto: “Less Gear and More Water.” We document our rides on our YouTube channel, “Be Gone for Good.”
