Power, stability and comfort are just a few highlights of what Maruti Suzuki has packed into the all-new third generation WagonR. While the new WagonR gets a bigger power plant alongside the existing 1.0 l engine, it has also been constructed on the fifth generation HEARTECT platform. This has not only created ample cabin room but has also made the WagonR more stable and comfortable to drive. That’s not all; the new model now comes with exciting features and at attractive price points. Here’s how it shapes up.
INTRODUCTION
Maruti Suzuki has gradually been phasing out its older platforms, bringing new products on its fifth generation HEARTECT platform. This has also provided the company the flexibility to make worldclass products that offer enhanced safety and build quality. With a few powertrains on offer, Maruti Suzuki has brought into the new WagonR its 1.2 l K-Series, four cylinder petrol engine alongside the 1.0 l, three cylinder mill that is now 10 % more efficient. The third generation WagonR has been introduced with features that make convenience and functionality more affordable to the masses. Maruti Suzuki aims to recreate the magic of the WagonR adopting a fresh new approach to a product that promises to be a smart choice of the average urban dweller.
CONSTRUCTION, POWERTRAIN AND PLATFORM
Laid on the HEARTECT platform, the WagonR has become bigger and bolder. Looking closer at the dimensions of the hatchback, the WagonR now measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height. The wheelbase is now longer and measures 2,435 mm, that is around 35 mm longer than the outgoing model. With the new platform, the company has managed to create a wider car; the front track has increased by 140 mm while the rear track has increased by 150 mm. The increase in length has also added 17 mm to the length of the boot, creating more luggage room. Boot space now measures 341 l and with the second row folded down, the car can hold up to 710 l of cargo.

Good lighting makes a major contribution to road safety. In 2011, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) presented an evaluation system for headlamps that can objectively assess the quality of illumination and glare limitation. New light sources like LEDs and lighting functions (glare-free high beam, partial high beam) have been available for several years, so that an extension of the proven CIE method is necessary, which takes into account, among other things, changed switch-on and service lives of new lighting functions and represents a generally understandable evaluation system. An evaluation system presented in the following by the Technische Uni versität Darmstadt, which was developed by an encompassing expert commission, is intended to provide representative data and enable an objective evaluation of headlamp performance.
