Volkswagen ID Life Concept Is Manifesto For Cheap EVs

Volkswagen has pledged that the Mini-rivalling production version of its new ID Life crossover concept will go on sale in 2025 featuring some “radical” new concepts – and will gain a GTXbranded performance variant.

Revealed at the Munich motor show, the ID Life previews the first car that will be built on the specially adapted MEB Entry version of the Volkswagen Group’s EV platform, likely to be called the ID 2. The firm has said it will be priced from €20,000 (£17,000) to €25,000 (£21,500).

The MEB Entry platform will also be used for forthcoming EVs from Cupra (previewed by the Urban Rebel concept) and Skoda, with the Volkswagen Group aiming to build around 500,000 per year at Seat’s factory in Martorell, Spain.

Autocar understands that Volkswagen took the lead on developing the new version of the MEB platform while Seat and Cupra led the development of the cars and production processes, but each brand will style and design its own MEB Entry model.

THIS IS THE REAL PEOPLE’S EV
