18 And Counting

My name is Johannes, Clive, Nonhlanhla, Jared, Nazeer, Bongani and Jenna.

I drive over the legal alcohol limit. Sometimes I also drive drunk. I also exceed the speed limit and sometimes I speed too (there is a difference…)

I’d been doing this for many years. Apart from the odd camera fine here and there I had never been arrested. I had a few minor accidents or incidents, strangely when I was not drunk or speeding… So how do I do all this driving (when intoxicated) and speeding? It’s a combination of things. Sometimes I just use common sense and logic, but mostly I lay the blame at the feet of authorities. (More on this later)

Let’s get to the speeding part first. Very simple - In town areas where traffic chiefs place a magnitude of (monetary) speed cameras and speed operations within the immediate borders of his town I simply drive or ride within the 10kmh grace limit. I never exceed the speed limits inside the borders of a city or town.

Traffic chiefs and their speed operators are very predictable – they place cameras and speed traps at the same locations all of the time. Mostly it’s place at “easy” roads where they know the dangers are not very high, so motorists will tend to be more relaxed and exceed the limits. That way cops can “catch” larger volumes. On certain town or city roads you’ll rarely or never see cops. On those ones you can speed up without any problems! Then, outside town borders you will rarely find cops. That is where I do my speeding! Twist the grip, press the pedal a bit! On a trip from here to Cape Town or the other way around, and out on the open roads you’ll very seldom find a traffic cop or a speed trap. You can open up, but you have to take care of extremely reckless drivers - and truck, bus and taxi drivers!

A Ladies Perspective What a Surprise Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX

I’m sure as everyone knows by now there is little that compares to my BMW K1200S and out of the 13 different bikes I’ve been lucky enough to ride over the 18 months I’ve been riding, I finally came across one that I’m almost certain I’d swap my bike for…
