The brand is also looking inwards, using what is already there and coming up with different versions around tried-and-tested concepts. Most recently, the Speed Triple RS gave birth to the Speed Triple RR, and the two bikes, although there is more than 80% shared between the two, couldn’t be further apart in looks, style and type.
Much so with the newest edition to the Triumph stable, the Tiger Sport 660. Based on the very successful Trident 660 (which was launched last year), Triumph have done it again. They have created a whole new bike, sharing probably more than 80% of components with the Trident, but in a whole new direction. Much like the Triumph Tiger Sport 1050 which saw the light of day in 2013, the 660 looks like a modern take on the old 1050. The New Tiger Sport 660 is certainly not an adventure bike, the 17” wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Road 5’s attest to this fact.
What is it exactly then? Judging by its looks, it would make a great all-rounder, taking commuting, breakfast runs and touring in its stride. The motor, wheels, brakes, frame, exhaust and suspension all come from the Trident 660, which is not a bad thing at all. The Trident has proven to be a very capable little bike, one which us here at Bike SA surely won’t mind having in our personal fleet.
