SHOW-WINNING, CUMMINS-POWERED ’47 INTERNATIONAL IS SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A BEAUTY QUEEN
Joe Greeves
BUILDERS' CHOICE
IGNACIO MOREJON is a very unique truck builder. When he’s not creating radical rat rods, the Miami, Florida, resident presides over his coffee-roasting business or conducts tasting events for the coffee stock exchange. While the java business has very little in common with the diesel hobby, it certainly pays the bills—and it allows Ignacio to concentrate on his latest patina rig.

Getting started in the hobby came naturally. Ignacio explains, “I like the rat rod approach, because you can express whatever’s in your head. The end result is fun to drive and you don’t have to worry about using it.” This is his second build, and he still owns his first: a ’29 Model A Ford, also done in rat rod style.

With the Model A complete, Ignacio was looking for a second project when he discovered this partially completed truck, built by a friend who wasn’t able to finish it. The cab is a ’47 International KB-Series, popular on 10-wheel flatbed trucks. The chassis is a ’93 Dodge D250 ¾-ton, single-rear-wheel frame. Ignacio saw the potential, bought it, and began the refinement process.

Getting (Un)Stuck

IN THE FIRST installment of this series, I explained how I, along with my wife and two dogs, took Vincent Van Go, my new-tome ’03 Ford E-350 with the venerable 7.3L powerplant, on his first adventure—and wound up at a secluded campsite (aptly named Camp Nada Lotta) in the Southern California desert.

Torque: Rotary Diesel No Pistons Needed

Building a diesel engine that does not use traditional pistons may seem odd, but in today’s modern age of high efficiency, low emissions, and weight reduction, an engine with a nonconventional rotor may be the key to things to come.
