We spend a few minutes with the Head of Press and Public Relations at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, hoping Kate might let some secrets slip…

Kate Thompson

VWt: Hi Kate, how’s it going? Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us, we really appreciate it.

We know it’s been popular for retro-fit upgrades pretty much since its inception in 1950, but how do you react to the current aftermarket obsession with VW Transporters? We’d imagine, in the grand scheme of things, it’s a rather niche concern compared to the numbers that are sold through the UK dealer network?

KT: My pleasure! Following the launch of the T6 in September 2015, the Transporter is going from strength to strength – we sold nearly 25,000 last year. So yes, by comparison, the aftermarket element is a niche – but it’s an important niche because I think it’s one of the best, interesting and tangible ways in which customers show their love of our brand and our long heritage.

VWt: Would you say sales of the Transporter have increased as a result of all the aftermarket products and the interest there is in modifying them at the moment?
