The Ice White Edition of the aluminium Tecnomar Evo 120 is a spectacular Italian-designed superyacht that caters to Asian tastes and hull one is heading to this region soon.
THE 555FT-TALL Washington Memorial, completed in 1888, has an aluminium apex. At the time of casting, it was a rare metal as valuable as silver and the world’s largest piece of aluminium.
After 130 years, the apex is still there and the original inscriptions are still legible.
The latest marvel from Tecnomar is also built in aluminium, and while the comparative cost of the material has reduced somewhat, the resilience of this material is greater than ever.
With new alloys having even greater strength and longevity, the Italian high-tech builder expects owners in a hundred years to be celebrating the centenary of the first Evo 120 Ice White Edition.
Tecnomar, part of The Italian Sea Group along with Admiral, prefers to use aluminium because it’s a custom yacht builder and crafts each vessel individually. The beautiful and complex hull form with intricate compound curves and niches could not easily be moulded in plastic without using multiple pieces and carrying a considerable weight penalty.
In fact, the stealthy, sleek new 120-footer is as much sculpture as naval architecture, while its performance promises to be very comfortable, even at speed, and very economical.
The yacht is available with a selection of power plants from MTU, up to twin 1,939kW engines and a top speed of 26 knots, which the yard considers the limit for comfortable refined cruising. The hull form and structure are expected to give a much smoother ride than its composite counterparts.
While the Evo 120 is not built around achieving the highest-in-class top speed, it’s expected to top the competition in terms of comfortable cruising speed and range, allowing the yacht to cruise the entire South China Sea.
