But this month, agriculture and its products will be the main feature during an educational event.
On May 15, the inaugural Taste of the Heartland will get underway, featuring breakfast and lunch along with farm equipment displays, children’s games, educational activities and a farmers market.
Organized as a way to promote agriculture in the Heartland, there will also be vendors showing and selling fresh produce, plants, arts and crafts, baked goods, candles and honey. Various food trucks will be parked for those wanting to stay for lunch.
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Avon Park Lakes Farmers Market, 2714 Nautilus Dr., the Highlands County Farm Bureau — in conjunction with the Avon Park Lakes Farmers Market and the Highlands County Young Farmers & Ranchers —will host the Taste of the Heartland.
Jennifer Swain, Farm Bureau membership committee chairwoman, is one of four committee members coordinating Taste of the Heartland.
