Together they formed one of cinema’s most iconic, butt kicking duos, but Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon almost weren’t Thelma & Louise. Whaaat?!

Yep, Jodie Foster and Michelle Pfeiffer were originally slated to star as the vigilante heroines in the 1991 flick, but ultimately had to turn down the juicy parts after production was delayed.

And once that happened, Tinseltown’s top actresses duked it out for the roles in the Ridley Scott classic.

“It seemed as if every agent who represented anyone with a vagina and a pulse besieged [production company] Pathe and Ridley’s company for a shot,” author Becky Aikman dishes in her behind-the-scenes book Off The Cliff: How The Making Of Thelma & Louise Drove Hollywood To The Edge. “Producers and studios may have shied away from it, but actresses were desperate for the meaty, flawed, fully loaded roles it provided, with character arcs that would put the players’ skills to the test.”
