PERA PALACE HOTEL TURKEY
Since its renovation in 2010, Pera Palace Hotel has been regarded as a “museum hotel”. It was built in 1892 and was home to the first electric elevator in Istanbul.
The luxury hotel officially opened its doors three years later, welcoming an array of stars over the years such as Greta Garbo and Alfred Hitchcock.
Best-selling author Agatha Christie was also a fan and always stayed in room 411. It is assumed Christie wrote Murder On The Orient Express in that very room, as the hotel hosted the train’s passengers travelling between Paris and Istanbul.
Room 411 is available to guests and is cloaked in its original red furnishings. There is also a collection of the author’s books and a replica of her typewriter.
PRICES START AT £70 PER NIGHT FOR TWO PEOPLE. SEE PERAPALACE.COM
OAKLEY COURT UK
It’s Time Warp time at this Victorian mansion with plenty of Gothic fantasy. Oakley Court, which overlooks the River Thames in the county of Berkshire, is perhaps best known for being Dr Frank-N-Furter’s castle in the 1975 classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
