When OK! arrived at Adam Ant’s mews flat in London in 2011 for our exclusive shoot, the 80s icon was sporting a pencil moustache, leather trousers, skull and cross bone slippers and a Napoleonic hat.
Mementos of his accomplishments from his glittering career adorned the living room, from his two Ivor Novello awards to his wall of platinum discs.
But as is often the case for artists who hit the big time, things haven’t all been plain sailing for the former lead singer of Adam and the Ants.
After years of struggling with undiagnosed bipolar disorder, he was arrested and sectioned in 2002 after throwing a car part through the window of a London pub and threatening onlookers with a starter pistol.
Opening up about the incident, Adam told OK!, “Someone who I believed was in that pub had made a threat to my daughter and I went into a hyper-manic state. Stupidly, I took the law into my own hands and I paid the price.” He adds of being sectioned, “It’s terrifying.”
