After showing us how to transform our homes on BBC Two’s Your Home Made Perfect, Angela Scanlon knows a thing or two about upscaling on a budget. So we’re not surprised to learn that the star – who has also presented The One Show and Robot Wars, and has her own spot on BBC Radio Two and a hit podcast – loves a bargain!
When we call the 37-year-old, she tells us she’s taking cover from the rain on a miserable day in London. But that doesn’t dampen her spirit as she fills us in on her latest project, Your Garden Made Perfect, in which she’ll oversee garden redesigns.
Away from TV, Angela says her greatest achievement is two-year-old daughter Ruby, who she shares with hubby of six years Roy Horgan. “Lockdown has meant I’ve been able to spend much more time with Ruby,” she says. “Having her was the proudest moment of my life.”
Here, Angela talks about transforming gardens on a budget, the secret to a happy marriage and parenting in lockdown…
Hey Angela! Tell us, do you love a good bargain?
Oh, I love a good bargain! Absolutely love it. It’s one of my favourite things. There’s something very satisfying about feeling like you’ve got something cheap or for free!
There is! Have you always been super thrifty?
Yes. I’ve always loved charityshop finds and clothes. I buy furniture off my friends on Instagram. I have a beautiful kitchen table and chairs I got from a friend. They were from Ercol and worth quite a bit of money but we got the whole set for a good price. I’ve also got a really beautiful lounger I bought from a friend. There’s something really special about finding something in the rubble or from eBay or Gumtree!
