Forever Etched In His Mind

I’d been told not offer lifts to strangers – there are a lot of crooks on those roads at this time of the day, and since my eyes were easily fooled by innocent demeanours, I told myself that I would follow what my young brother had advised me to do, or rather not to do.

I was tempted twice. First by a young man in his early 20s who required a lift into the city; I ignored him and drove away. In another instance a young lady in her late 20s stopped me and asked if I could drop her off in a nearby suburb. Again, I drove off. A third person won me over.

It was a lady in her late 40s. She asked me to drop her off a mere three kilometres away. On top of that was the fact that she told me that she was in hurry, being already 15 minutes late for work. My resolve was softened by her words, and I offered her a lift.
