Rekindling Happy Memories: A Royal Visit To Scotland

In the last week of May Prince William and his wife Catherine headed north of the border to Scotland. The Duke of Cambridge is now Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, a title which the Queen bequeathed to him earlier this year.

Prince William arrived alone for the first leg of the tour which began with the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. It is a tradition that when a Royal of stature arrives he or she is symbolically offered the keys to the city of Edinburgh by the Lord Provost. The Royal visitor then returns the keys, saying: “I return these keys, being perfectly convinced that they cannot be placed in better hands than those of the Lord Provost and Councillors of my good City of Edinburgh”.

After this, one of the Duke of Cambridge’s first stops was the Spartan Football Club’s Ainslie Park Stadium where he also participated in a virtual discussion with athletes from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales in which they discussed efforts to raise awareness for mental health.
