JODIE COMER, THE AWARD-WINNING ‘KILLING EVE’ STAR, OPENS UP ON PLAYING TV’S MOST INTRIGUING VILLAIN, AND FINALLY FINDING LOVE
'I stank of DESPERATION'
The thing that surprises most people about Jodie Comer is her voice. Fans know her as the psychotic and ruthless Russian assassin Villanelle from the hit thriller Killing Eve. Her heavily accented voice is calm, cold and deliberate – exactly what you’d imagine from a professional hit woman, straight out of a Cold War-era James Bond movie. But in real life, Comer is effervescent, loud and has a strong Liverpudlian accent. But effortlessly switching between different nationalities is something that has always come naturally, she shares.

“It comes from growing up,” she laughed during a recent Q&A event in London. “Me and my dad, if there was an advert with a silly voice on, we’d always impersonate it around the house just joking around. When I’m doing my own accent I find it harder to separate myself from Villanelle. I don’t know why – you also don’t see many Scousers [people from Liverpool] on the telly so maybe we need to change that up a bit!”
